Custodian/Housekeeper, Physical and Environmental Resources
This recruitment is to replenish the casual-on-call pool.
Reporting to the Supervisor, Custodial and Housekeeping Services, you will be responsible for providing custodial services for University facilities, including regular cleaning, custodial maintenance and sanitation of common areas of residences, rooms and buildings, cafeteria and gymnasium including the interior building surfaces, fixtures, furnishings and fittings contained within these facilities. You will provide heavier cleaning and sanitation of resident dorms when not occupied or on request (e.g. floors, walls, fabrics). You will also be responsible for a high quality of upkeep and detailing of residence accommodation, lounges, hallways, entranceways and University houses.
You will be responsible for the physical appearance and cleanliness of assigned areas, ensuring they are maintained in accordance with applicable department, statutory codes and regulations, and for promoting the professional image presented by the University.
To be well suited for this position you will be able to: use equipment and materials related to the duties; work independently and as part of a team; communicate effectively with internal and external clients; apply general knowledge of procedures and techniques involved in the work performed and perform physical aspects of the work.
Required qualifications:
- Grade 12 graduation certificate , or equivalent
- One (1) year experience performing related duties in an institutional environment and completion of a recognized Custodial certificate course, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
- Possession of a valid Class 5 driver’s license in the province of BC
Preferred qualifications:
- Knowledge of Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) and the use of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)
- Knowledge of basic computer applications
This is a casual on-call position within the CUPE Local 3886 Bargaining Unit and we cannot guarantee a set number of hours per week. The hourly rate is $17.71 and the university is pleased to offer a percentage of salary in lieu of benefits.
