At Royal Roads University we are leaders and partners creating an enduring prosperity.  Transformation in career and life result from our teaching and research applied to solve problems and create opportunities in the world.

We connect people, ideas and experiences to change lives and the world.

Reporting to the Vice President & Chief Financial Officer your capacity for a sophisticated understanding of the university’s business model, and your leadership skills to support the integrated financial planning, information analysis and performance monitoring processes of the university, will make you a key member of the senior management team.

You are comfortable with the responsibility of supporting the executive and promoting collaboration with both internal and external stakeholders.  You will coordinate the preparation of the fully integrated business and financial plan.  This will encompass business cases in support of new program initiatives and strategic partnerships, the development and oversight of a capital investment plan that will provide the infrastructure necessary to support the university’s growth objectives as well as deferred maintenance and stewardship of the campus, located on a federally owned national historic site.

You will lead the effective monitoring, reporting and forecasting of performance, including the financial and other quantitative elements of the university’s HR strategy, and the development of a comprehensive KPI matrix.  In addition you will be the central point for the collection, analysis and synthesis of internal and external business information that will inform executive decision making in relation to both marketing, academic planning, and institutional research.  Supporting all of these activities, the design and development of complex financial systems and business and cash flow models, preparation of comprehensive business analytics needed to support multi-year planning and new initiatives, as well as the development of annual operating plans will be critical measures of your success in this role.

  • You are a consummate professional, with a recognized accounting designation
  • You have a successful track record and at least 10 years of experience in senior financial positions, working in organizations of comparable complexity.  Experience working in a private-sector/corporate model and/or a post-secondary academic environment would be an asset
  • You are an accomplished leader with proven management, strategic thinking, and financial planning skills
  • You are proactive and thrive in an environment with a high level of accountability
  • You understand the university’s strategic vision and look beyond traditional solutions as strategy is translated into action, inspiring high performance and positive outcomes
