Royal Roads University is seeking a Director of our Centre for Teaching and Educational Technologies who is passionate about learning. Reporting to the Associate Vice-President, Student & Academic Services, you will lead teaching and educational technology support services that continuously improve on the rich learning experience upon which Royal Roads University has earned a strong reputation for quality and innovation.
You will lead your talented team of three managers and a total of approximately 20 instructional designers, elearning technologists, interactive media developers, instructional media technicians, and audio-visual technicians in the provision of instructional development, integrated elearning technologies, and media support services. Drawing upon your thorough, current knowledge of pedagogy, the appropriate application of technologies to learning, you will develop a unit strategic plan that will guide your annual service plans. You will continuously refine our faculty development framework and coordinate the delivery an ever-evolving suite of faculty development opportunities. Your understanding of copyright and FOI/POP will help to ensure that systems prioritize compliance with legislation. You will forge strong internal and external working relationships with the Deans, School Directors, faculty and others and engage with external organizations to form partnerships to innovate in educational delivery and design. As a senior leader you will contribute to the University’s goals, managing your unit’s human, financial and capital resources in keeping with annual performance development plans, budgets, and key performance indicators.
Our ideal candidate will possess an optimal combination of the following:
- A Master’s degree in a relevant field (distributed learning, educational technology, educational psychology) and a minimum of 10 years related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Demonstrated knowledge of learning theory and educational technology, including current trends and issues
- Knowledge of the principles of adult learning and the methods of instructional design
- Extensive experience and professional connections in the fields of teaching and learning
- Experience working with external clients and partners
- 5 years management experience which includes supervising a team of professionals
- Demonstrated management skills
- Proven excellence in the areas of Team Leadership, Critical Thinking, Innovation, Change Management, Customer Service, and Developing Others
