Reporting to the Vice President & Chief Financial Officer, your capacity for a sophisticated understanding of the university’s business model, and your leadership skills to support the overall management of financial operations for the university, will make you a key member of the senior management team.

You are comfortable with the responsibility of supporting the executive and promoting collaboration with both internal and external stakeholders to ensure that financial systems respond to reporting needs in a timely, accurate and comprehensive fashion.  This is underpinned by making certain that financial systems, policies and processes are maintained to meet high standards of efficiency and internal control.

You will coordinate and oversee the following critical components of the university’s financial services portfolio:  all elements of financial services operations, payroll, accounts receivable/payable (for both domestic and offshore accounts), investments and balance sheet management, the annual audit plan, insurance matters, and tax compliance.

Within this framework, you will also take a leading role in the effective management of the university’s research accounts as well as the management of financial activities related to two charitable foundations.  In addition, you will have routine management responsibility for freedom of information requests and related follow up.

Financial policies, procedures and systems will be set in collaboration with the executive, and monitored by you to ensure that routine operations and business development processes are effective and aligned with the university’s strategic objectives.  Supporting all of these activities, the design and development of the framework required to guide accountability at all levels of the organization, as well as enterprise risk management will be critical measures of your success in this role.  Similarly, you will assess opportunities for business process re-engineering, formulate recommendations for improvement, and oversee the effective implementation of changes.

  • You are a consummate professional, with a recognized accounting designation
  • You have a successful track record and at least 10 years of experience in senior financial positions, working in organizations of comparable complexity.  Experience working in a private-sector/corporate model and/or a post-secondary academic environment would be an asset
  • You are an accomplished leader with proven management, strategic thinking, and financial systems skills.  Experience with the development or implementation of enterprise risk management would be an asset
  • You are proactive and thrive in an environment with a high level of accountability
  • You understand the university’s strategic vision and look beyond traditional solutions as strategy is translated into action, inspiring high performance and positive outcomes
