This Canada Research Chair (CRC) position is an integral part of RRU’s overall plan to promote and develop its research enterprise and to support the university’s unique mandate.

The goal of the CRC program is to ensure that Canadian universities “achieve the highest levels of research excellence to become world-class research centres in the global, knowledge-based economy.”

In order to compete successfully for a CRC award, candidates are expected to have a completed PhD, an outstanding and innovative research program, and the ability to attract excellent graduate students.

Tier II Chair, tenable for five years and renewable once, are for exceptional emerging researchers, acknowledged by their peers as having the potential to lead in their field.

Tier II nominees should:

  • be excellent emerging researchers who have demonstrated particular research creativity;

  • have demonstrated the potential to achieve international recognition in their fields in the next five to ten years;

  • be proposing an original, innovative research program of high quality;

  • as a chair holder, have the potential to attract excellent trainees, students and future researchers.

This position offers an attractive salary, an annual research stipend, reduced teaching loads, and the opportunity to apply for start-up infrastructure through the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI).

This position, conditional upon approval of the candidate by the CRC, will begin as soon as possible after notification of approval by the CRC Secretariat.

  • a cover letter
  • a current curriculum vitae
  • a copy of 3 recent publications (please explain the significance of the selections)
  • a statement of research achievements (as it relates to a Tier II level of achievement)
  • a detailed research proposal (~3-4 pages) appropriate to the goals and objectives of the CRC program at the Tier II level
  • a statement regarding how the proposed research program connects with RRU’s mission, vision, strategic directions and goals
  • a statement of teaching philosophy/interests, and evidence of teaching effectiveness
