This is a new temporary full-time position.

Reporting to the University Librarian and working closely with the Writing Centre Coordinator, the Writing Centre Associate supports the Writing Centre by facilitating writing workshops, providing individual support to students both in person and within the distributed learning environment, helping to create and maintain online learning tools with a focus on developing instructional materials in formats alternative to print, and initiating, establishing, and maintaining positive working relationships with RRU program faculty and staff to provide customized writing instruction and student scholarship.  The Associate assists with supporting students to improve their writing skills, enabling them to achieve quality in academic writing, and guides them to discover internal and external opportunities for publication of their work.  The Associate is also responsible for providing support and building resources for students seeking to publish their work via traditional and non-traditional scholarly channels.

To be well suited to the role you will possess the following qualifications and competencies:

  • Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred) in an appropriate field of study and formal teaching qualifications with a minimum of 1 year related experience working with students in a post-secondary environment
  • Strong computer skills (MS Office suite, web editors, PKP software, Photoshop)
  • Demonstrated excellence in facilitating synchronous and asynchronous learning experiences for adults
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects and meet deadlines
  • Excellent communication and organization skills
  • Thorough understanding of the basic components of writing (parts of speech, grammar, punctuation, capitalization), the writing process, and writing style guides

This is a temporary full-time position working 37.5 hours per week for approximately 2 months.  The work schedule is 10 am to 6 pm, Tuesday through Saturday.  The position has been evaluated at Grade 3 and the recruitment range starts at 42,024 per annum.  The University is pleased to offer a percentage of salary in lieu of vacation.
