Job description: 

Reporting to the Manager, Advancement, the Advancement Officer is responsible for supporting the development and implementation of a wide range of engagement strategies.  These include communications, strategic relationship coordination, donor and volunteer recognition and stewardship, fund management, and committee support. The role assists with the coordination and development of advancement communication materials. The Advancement Officer plays a support role in planning, designing, and organizing activities, special events and other engagement initiatives. The role also involves supporting Communications and Advancement involvement with respect to donor funds and student awards.  This includes developing Terms of Reference for each fund, leading the approval process, and developing fund management policies and procedures. The Advancement Officer’s duties require taking a lead on other special projects or assignments; maintaining strategic relationships, liaising with many other departments of the University and interacting comfortably with a wide range of people including University and community leaders.

The role requires working independently and demonstrating a high level of initiative while being in a dynamic team environment where flexibility and multi-tasking is essential, plus other similar duties as they arise. 

Qualifications: 
  • Undergraduate degree with a minimum of three years of related experience, preferably in a fundraising or communications environment
  • Experience building and executing successful social media or crowdfunding campaigns.
  • Basic knowledge of web design and web development.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience of fundraising theory
  • Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience with event co-ordination and volunteer management
  • Possesses exceptional organizational abilities, including priority setting, time management and project management skills
  • Superior writing and editing skills with experience in preparing briefing notes, brochures, speaking notes, web content, correspondence, reports, and other communiqués
  • Superior oral communication and strong interpersonal skills using tact and sensitivity in handling highly confidential information
  • Strong problem solving skills with a detail orientation
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite, Raiser’s Edge and other relevant applications
  • Demonstrated initiative and ability to use judgment and make decisions within scope of position with the ability to maintain strict confidentiality
  • Must possess a positive attitude and be an active member of a collaborative team in a dynamic environment
  • Understand and appreciate sustainability issues an asset
  • Must be available to work occasional evenings and weekends
  • Sound knowledge of RRU, its philosophy and programs is an asset
  • Some travel may be required.

This is a regular full-time position working 37.5 hours per week. The role is positioned within Grade 3 with a recruitment salary range starting at $ $44,516 per annum. The University is pleased to offer a comprehensive benefit package.
