The School of Tourism and Hospitality Management is seeking applications for Associate Faculty to teach an International Hotel Management course in the Bachelor of Arts in International Hotel Management (on-campus)program for the 2018 school year.

The BA in International Hotel Management at Royal Roads University is an applied degree that prepares students for a successful career in the hospitality sector.  The program has a strong international focus with an international and domestic cohort working in a team setting to develop the knowledge, skills and abilities required to pursue a career in global hospitality and service. 

Associate faculty members play a key role in the delivery of the school’s programs. Our Associate Faculty members bring a practitioner perspective to their teaching, combining appropriate academic theory with real-world and international experience in the hospitality sector. Please note - Associate Faculty are not employees; rather, they hold limited-term contracts to teach individual courses in our programs. Royal Roads University provides instructional and learning management system (Moodle) training through our Centre for Teaching and Educational Technology (CTET).

Course Descriptions:

We are currently seeking an associate faculty member to teach International Hotel Management – IHMN 330. We welcome expressions of interest for other tourism and hospitality management courses on an ongoing basis.


Specifically examines the human and operational issues and challenges relating to hotel management within a global setting, using the case study teaching methodology. Variations in culture, currency, and customs that present unique challenges in international operations will be explored.

  • a graduate degree (PhD preferred) in a field related to one or more of the following:  hotel operations, international hotel management, international business, service management, operations management
  • professional experience and expertise working in the field related to the course content
  • demonstrated teaching excellence at the undergraduate level
  • experience teaching in an intercultural student class
  • experience using learning and teaching technologies in the classroom
  • a teaching philosophy that is compatible with RRU’S Learning and Teaching Model

Courses are typically three hours in duration and are taught once or twice per week for eleven weeks on campus (33 contact hours). Successful applicants will have availability between March and June 2018.
