*Associate faculty hold limited-term contracts to teach individual courses in our programs. 

The School of Business is seeking applications for Associate Faculty to teach in the field of Consumer Behaviour and Culture in the Bachelor of Business Administration (on-campus) program.   The teaching opportunity is for the 2017/18 school year.

The School of Business is dedicated to educating both aspiring and existing professionals in the business field.  Our emphasis is on relevant, applied skills aimed at developing business professionals who are strong communicators, critical thinkers, problem solvers, ethical leaders, globally-aware citizens and effective team members.

Associate faculty members play a key role in the delivery of the school’s programs. Our Associate Faculty members bring a scholar-practitioner perspective to their teaching, combining appropriate academic theory with real-world experience. All Associate Faculty positions are limited-term, contract positions. Royal Roads University provides instructional and Moodle skills training through our Centre for Teaching and Educational Technology.

Course Description:

STNL411 Consumer Behaviour and Culture

A solid understanding of cultural principles and consumer buying behaviour concepts is critical to creating a successful international marketing program.  Throughout this course you will have the opportunity to familiarise yourself with the latest research and practice in the field of consumer behaviour and consumer research as it relates to making marketing and communications decisions across borders and cultures. You will have the opportunity to examine consumption in the context of culture, the notion of ‘global consumers’, and divergence and convergence of consumption and consumer behaviour. Throughout the course you will develop a strong foundation for critical thinking in different areas of consumer behaviour and consumption research and experiential exercises will help you translate this knowledge into effective marketing communications actions and strategies. Viewing international marketing decisions such as branding and communication from a cultural perspective will allow you to develop the ability to make marketing and communications decisions appropriate for different national contexts.


The ideal candidate for teaching at RRU is someone who has experience as a scholar and a practitioner. For our programs, desired qualifications include:

  • a graduate degree (PhD preferred) in a field related to one or more of the following:  consumer behaviour, marketing, behavioural economics

  • professional experience working in the field related to course content

  • expertise that aligns with the focus of the program and courses

  • demonstrated teaching excellence at the undergraduate and graduate level

  • experience working within an outcomes-based curriculum

  • experience teaching in intercultural classes

  • a teaching philosophy that is compatible with RRU’S Learning and Teaching Model, available at:

  • experience teaching in face-to-face environments
