Royal Roads University is seeking applications for Associate Faculty to teach in the Master of Arts in Disaster and Emergency Management program for the School of Humanitarian Studies. Associate Faculty are not employees; rather, they hold limited-term contracts to teach individual courses in our programs.

The MA in Disaster and Emergency Management (DEM) program is a two-year interdisciplinary degree dedicated to educating both aspiring and existing disaster and emergency management professionals. To read more about our DEM program, please visit our website at:

We have an immediate need for an instructor for our 9-weekHUMS 691 Short Paper onlinecourse, which runs from July 10 2017 – September 10 2017.

The calendar description for this course is:

HUMS 691: Short Paper

Culminates the course-based master’s track program of studies for the Disaster and Emergency Management program. Students select, critique, synthesize and apply findings from the research literature to make recommendations for how to deal with a professional practice problem.

Given the focus of this course, preference will be given to applicants familiar with, or experienced working within, the Canadian disaster and emergency management policy context.


The ideal candidate:

The ideal candidate for teaching at RRU is someone who has experience as a scholar and a practitioner.  

Requisite qualifications include:

A PhD in emergency management, or a related discipline is preferred

Professional experience in disaster and emergency management

Expertise that aligns with the focus of one or more of our graduate courses

Demonstrated teaching excellence at the graduate level

Experience working within an interdisciplinary outcomes-based curriculum

Experience teaching in web-based distance education programs and face-to-face environments, or experience with thesis supervision

A teaching philosophy that is compatible with RRU’S Learning and Teaching Model, available at:
