*Associate faculty hold limited-term contracts to teach individual courses in our programs. 

The School of Business is seeking applications for Associate Faculty to teach in the field of Human Resources in the Bachelor of Business Administration (on-campus) program.   The teaching opportunity is for the 2017/18 school year.

The School of Business is dedicated to educating both aspiring and existing professionals in the business field.  Our emphasis is on relevant, applied skills aimed at developing business professionals who are strong communicators, critical thinkers, problem solvers, ethical leaders, globally-aware citizens and effective team members.

Associate faculty members play a key role in the delivery of the school’s programs. Our Associate Faculty members bring a scholar-practitioner perspective to their teaching, combining appropriate academic theory with real-world experience. All Associate Faculty positions are limited-term, contract positions. Royal Roads University provides instructional and Moodle skills training through our Centre for Teaching and Educational Technology.

Course Description:

BUSA206 – Fundamentals of Human Resources Management

The role of human resources management (HRM) has never been more critical to organizational success than it is today. Long term competitive advantage depends on the effectiveness of human resources systems and practices in recruiting, training, performance management, succession planning, compensation, and in creating productive work cultures which support an organization's strategy. The objective of BUSA 206 is to critically explore multiple theories, models, and practices of effective HRM from a pragmatic and theoretical perceptive. The course enables learners to articulate the role and impact of HRM on organizational performance and productivity. Specifically, learners will be able to articulate how organizations attract qualified candidates; engage employees in the organization and their jobs; maximize employees’ contributions in order to achieve optimal productivity, while simultaneously satisfying individual objectives and meeting societal objectives; and retain employees so they are not tempted to leave for more lucrative employment opportunities.  The course prepares learners for the roles they will play as the next generation of leaders in business by providing them with concepts, frameworks, and personal awareness that they can employ to attract, engage, and retain staff within the overall vision and strategic direction of the organization.


The ideal candidate for teaching at RRU is someone who has experience as a scholar and a practitioner. For our programs, desired qualifications include:

  • a graduate degree (PhD preferred) in a field related to the following:  Human Resources Management
  • professional experience working in the field related to course content
  • expertise that aligns with the focus of the program and courses
  • demonstrated teaching excellence at the undergraduate level
  • experience working within an outcomes-based curriculum
  • experience teaching in intercultural classes
  • a teaching philosophy that is compatible with RRU’S Learning and Teaching Model, available at:
