Job description: 

Royal Roads University is seeking applications for Associate Faculty in the School of Communication & Culture, Faculty of Social and Applied Science. 

The School of Communication and Culture aims to develop communications professionals who are critical thinkers, ethical leaders, creative makers and global citizens’; we believe in the value of integrating theory with practical application.  We are confident that our students will emerge from their programs with new tools with which they can reflect upon, analyze and contribute insightfully to their social and professional communities.

All Associate Faculty positions are limited-term, contract positions.  Associate faculty members play a key role in the delivery of the school’s programs.  Royal Roads University provides instructional and Moodle skills training through our Centre for Teaching and Learning.

Courses requiring instruction:

COMM420: Media Project

Introduces the technical, creative, analytical and practical skills needed for developing multimedia projects designed to engage intended audiences.  Familiarizes students with the entire media project planning, production, delivery and publicity process.  Provides opportunities to practice a range of techniques including photo essay composition, sound recording and editing, integration of visuals, live interview recording, animation of text and graphics, web/graphic design and digital video editing.  Credits: 3.0

Qualifications: 
  • An MA or PhD in a field related to communication and culture
  • Demonstrated teaching excellence at the undergraduate or graduate level employing adult and experiential learning principles (teaching evaluations must be supplied)
  • A scholar-practitioner with extensive professional experience working in relevant professional communication contexts
  • Literacy in online and communication technologies as well as media production
  • Experience working within an interdisciplinary, outcomes-based curriculum
  • Experience teaching in web-based, distance education programs and face-to-face environments
  • Ability to work collegially as a team member
  • A teaching philosophy that is compatible with RRU’S Learning and Teaching Model, available at: RRU Learning and Teaching Model
