Job description: 

Royal Roads University is seeking applications for Associate Faculty in the School of Communication & Culture, Faculty of Social and Applied Science.

The School of Communication and Culture aims to develop communications professionals who are critical thinkers, creative makers, and global citizens; we believe in the value of integrating theory with practical application. We are confident that our students will emerge from their programs with new tools with which they can reflect upon, analyze, and contribute insightfully to their social and professional communities.

Associate faculty members play a key role in the delivery of the school’s programs. All Associate Faculty positions are limited-term, contract positions. Royal Roads University provides free instructional and moodle skills training through our Centre for Teaching and Learning.

IICS 565: Media Relations in a Global Context        

9/11/2017 to 12/17/2018

Explores and analyses media relations and how globalization and glocalization, have impacted the media industry. Introduces students to media relations strategies and tactics (including broadcast, print, and social media), as well as media cultures, comparative mass media systems, freedom of the press, cultural norms, and ethics and issues such as paying journalists as well as aspects of media law, and media policy. Credits: 3.0

Qualifications: 

Primary Position Qualifications and Outcomes:

  • An MA or PhD in a field related to Communication and Culture
  • Excellence in teaching at the undergraduate or graduate level employing adult and experiential learning principles (please supply teaching evaluations) 
  • Professional experience working in relevant professsional communication contexts – a “scholar/practitioner”
  • Literacy in online and communication technologies as well as media production 
  • Experience working within an interdisciplinary, outcomes-based curriculum
  • Experience teaching in web-based, distance education programs and face-to-face environments 
  • Ability to work collegially as a team member within a program team
