The course is designed as followsSeptember 12 – October 2: Pre-residency online teaching period (3 weeks)October 2 – 14: On-campus residency/face-to-face teaching (2 weeks)October 15 – 30: Post-residency online teaching period (2 weeks)The calendar description for this course is:DEMN601: DISASTER AND EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT PLANNING: FROM POLICY TO PRACTICESurveys the history of public policy development in the disaster and emergency management field, and explores current issues, gaps and drivers for change. Examines planning theories and the research of disaster and emergency management literature to establish criteria for best practices, and for development of mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery plans.Given the focus of this course, preference will be given to applicants familiar with, or experienced working within, the Canadian disaster and emergency management policy context.You may also be interested in teaching other courses in our MA Disaster & Emergency Management program.
