This is a new five year probationary position.

Royal Roads University is seeking applications for the position of Faculty Member in the School of Leadership Studies, Faculty of Social and Applied Sciences, at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or full Professor, based on qualifications and experience. As a full-time Faculty Member, you will play a key role in the delivery of the Master in Arts program in Leadership, Health specialization, which admits approximately 48 students annually. The program engages students in intensive on-campus residencies, online delivery of courses, and action-oriented capstone projects and theses.

This interdisciplinary program is focused on theoretical and applied approaches to the understanding and practice of leadership in personal, supervisory, team, and strategic contexts in the health sector. It stresses a holistic, cross-disciplinary, approach to learning leadership. The ideal candidate is a scholar-practitioner who brings both informed professional practice, research and academic scholarship to the program.

In the School of Leadership Studies, we believe that good leadership can transform people and organizations. We use a co-teaching model to provide authentic, challenging, collaborative, and engaging learning experiences through our leadership programs and our research initiatives.

Our outcomes-based graduate-level programs have been honed over 15 years to continually deliver relevant leadership education that is practical and grounded in scholarship. RRU offers a comprehensive compensation package to Faculty, with a starting salary and academic rank based on qualifications and experience.

The competition will begin on September 18, 2015 and the review of materials received will commence on October 30, 2015; however, the competition will remain open until a successful candidate is found.

Qualifications: 

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Doctoral degree in Leadership or a related field [ABD considered]
  • Professional/applied experience in the health care sector
  • Record of applied and/or action research in health leadership
  • Demonstrated teaching excellence at the graduate level in the field of leadership studies (in the health care context) in face to face and online environments
  • Experience in designing and delivering online instruction
  • Experience in the integration and use of adult learning principles in curriculum design, delivery and assessment, particularly at the graduate level
  • Understanding of research ethics for applied student research in health care organizations
  • Ability to work effectively in team-based course delivery
  • Experience in facilitating and evaluating practice-based learning outcomes
  • Ability to work within an interdisciplinary outcomes-based curriculum
  • Experience in and understanding of organizational leadership and organizational change in health care organizations
  • Experience in supervision of graduate students
  • Demonstrated ability to work collegially as a team member with a variety of teams and stakeholder groups
  • Willingness and ability to take on significant academic administrative duties
  • Commitment to student-focused teaching In addition to a collegial learning community
