Job description:

This is a replacement recruitment of an existing position.

Royal Roads University (RRU) is seeking applications for a full-time faculty position at the Assistant, Associate or Professor level primarily, but not exclusively, in the Bachelors and Masters in Environmental Practice (EP) programs, School of Environment and Sustainability, Faculty of Social and Applied Sciences.

Royal Roads University is located in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.  With a reputation for innovation, RRU is a leader in the delivery of blended learning programs, which combine intensive residency experiences with online course work.  The EP programs are unique in that they are fully on-line programs and are offered in partnership with the Environmental Careers Organization of Canada (ECO Canada).

Both programs address the academic support and knowledge requirements underpinning the National Occupational Standards defined for professional certification. The MA/MSc and BA/BSc in Environmental Practice programs are professionally-focused and have content related to professional certification.  Students take core courses at RRU and a variety of elective courses, and must complete a Research Paper or Practicum. The BA/BSc in Environmental Practice is a completion program and students have already completed a diploma or two years of post-secondary education.

The School of Environment and Sustainability has a range of interdisciplinary and applied undergraduate completion programs and graduate programs.  In addition to the on-line Environmental Practice programs this includes two BSc programs in Environmental Sciences (on-campus) and Environmental Management (blended) and two Masters programs, an MA/MSc in Environment and Management and an MA in Environmental Education and Communication (both blended).

As the successful applicant, you will be a scholar-practitioner, whose expertise is in the area of environmental management, practice and science, preferably in the Canadian context.  A full-time faculty member’s workload includes teaching, research and service.  At Royal Roads you will have responsibilities including supervision and support of associate faculty on term contracts, curriculum oversight and development, and student advising and support.

In addition to a collegial learning community, RRU offers a comprehensive compensation package to core faculty, with a salary based on rank, qualifications and experience.

A review of applications will commence on July 1, 2015; however, the competition will remain open until a successful candidate is found.

Qualifications:

To be considered, candidates will possess:

  • A doctorate in environmental science or a related field in the social or applied sciences
  • Demonstrated teaching excellence at the undergraduate and graduate level (employing adult learning and applied learning principles) in the fields of environmental practice and management, in both face-to-face and particularly on-line environments
  • Professional experience in environmental management/practice
  • Proven track record in research with an emphasis on practical application
  • Academic administrative experience
  • Experience in curriculum design and development with an inter-disciplinary and outcomes-based curriculum
