Job description:

Royal Roads University (RRU) is seeking applications for a full-time Faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level in the BA Justice Studies (BAJS) program, School of Humanitarian Studies, Faculty of Social and Applied Sciences.  Royal Roads University is located in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.  With a reputation for innovation, RRU is a leader in the delivery of blended learning programs, which combine intensive residency experiences with online course work.

The BAJSProgram, which was established in 2003, is a two-year, degree completion undergraduate program that provides students with foundations to pursue a justice-related career or post graduate studies.  In addition to the two-year blended model (online plus two short residencies), we offer a one-year intensive on campus option.  Typically, each program admits between 30 and 40 new students.  BAJS students have transferred from other colleges or universities or are working professionals who have roles in justice-related professions as policing, corrections, social work, the courts, public administration and other professions related to justice.  The diversity of student backgrounds and richness of their life experience contributes to the learning environment. Our program has undergone significant growth and we seek a candidate who has the passion to build on the BAJS program’s past success, and help shape future program growth.

As the successful applicant, you will be a scholar-practitioner who has expertise related to the four pillars underpinning the program (philosophy, law, social work and social science), and who has experience working with justice-related organizations in the Canadian context.  You will have a record of excellence in teaching and a teaching philosophy that is aligned with the values and practices of our university.   As a Faculty member at RRU your workload will include teaching, research and service.  You will also be expected to take on administrative responsibilities in overseeing the program.

  • A doctorate in a field related to justice studies and/or a related field in the social and applied sciences (ABD will be considered)
  • Demonstrated teaching excellence at the undergraduate and graduate level (employing adult learning and applied learning principles) in a justice-related field, in both face-to-face and on-line environments
  • Professional experience in working in a justice-related sector
  • Proven track record in research with an emphasis on practical application
  • Academic administrative experience
  • Experience in curriculum design and development with an interdisciplinary and learning outcomes-based curriculum
Application submission information:
In addition to a collegial learning community, RRU offers a comprehensive compensation package, with a starting salary and academic rank based on qualifications and experience.  This is an initial five-year appointment with the possibility of conversion into a continuing appointment, subject to performance and program needs.
