Job description: 

Royal Roads University invites your interest in a limited term Core Faculty role within the School of Tourism and Hospitality Management, Faculty of Management.  You will play a key role in the administrative and academic leadership for the Year 2 undergraduate courses, and assistance with other programs.  In terms of teaching, you will instruct in management subjects in the areas of tourism and hospitality such as hotel related operations, marketing, finance, sales and service, special event planning, entrepreneurship, globalization, and/or law in the 2nd Year as well as at the 3rd and 4th year.  You will provide academic administration for the program planning, delivery, quality and reporting.

  • Master’s degree required; Doctorate, or working towards a Doctorate, would be preferred
  • Experience in teaching a largely international group of students
  • Senior management experience, in hospitality, tourism, travel and / or related service industries; international experience an asset
  • Demonstrated teaching excellence at the undergraduate and graduate level (employing adult learning and applied learning principles) in the fields of hospitality, hotel management and tourism
  • A broad theoretical and practical understanding of hospitality, hotel management and tourism
  • Experience in the hospitality, hotel management and tourism sectors, and ability to develop networks of high-level contacts in these sectors
  • Ability to work within an interdisciplinary outcomes-based curriculum
  • Ability to manage a field of study within a school, and in lead a team of faculty members
  • Proven track record in program, administration, curriculum coordination and oversight and building strong culture
  • Experience in curriculum design and development
  • Excellent interpersonal and intercultural communication skills
  • Comfortable with leading 3-4 day field trips that may involve traveling overnight outside of the lower Vancouver Island region.
  • Willingness to participate in service related activities for the school such as marketing and recruitment
  • Proven expertise in time management, planning and implementation  of complex tasks

In addition to a collegial learning community, RRU offers a comprehensive compensation package, with a starting salary and academic rank based on qualifications and experience. This is approximately an 11 month appointment.

The competition will begin on June 1, 2017 and the review of materials received will commence on June 12, 2017; however, the competition will remain open until a successful candidate is found.  The anticipated start date is July 31, 2017.
