You possess exceptional presentation and communication skills with an ability to adapt to the needs and interests of their audiences.Charged with the responsibility of engaging visitors and increasing their appreciation and understanding of the importance of conservation, care and stewardship of Canada’s heritage, your primary responsibilities are to educate, engage, and create memorable visitor experiences.You will work from a program outline with core messaging that emphasizes important historical information and creates a dynamic storyline. The Heritage Guide will commit the program to memory and deliver it in a natural relaxed manner connecting on a personal level with visitors, while engaging and stimulating people in the experience. You may be asked to use costumes, props, artifacts, and other sensory aids to adapt and modify delivery to meet organizational and visitor needs. Qualifications: Experienced in program delivery; able to learn historical information and interpret it to large numbers of people from a wide range of ages and backgrounds including youth, seniors and international visitorsProfessionally trained or certified in interpretation, education or communications and/or a minimum of one year experience in program delivery, interpretation, or public educationExceptional in their verbal and written communication skills; an articulate speaker with an ability to creatively embody the storyCompetent in operating a PC computer with Microsoft programs (MS Word, Excel); and a point of sales (P.O.S.) systemResponsible for managing, balancing and accounting for a cash float each shiftCapable of working in a fast pace and dynamic environment while maintaining an uncompromised commitment to quality customer serviceReliable, and able to work under limited supervisionAble to form solid working relationships with a wide range of staff, volunteers, members of the community, and beyondExcellent personal attributes that include, but are not limited to, energetic, team player, and able to embrace changeAbility to react quickly to emerging situations, respond to customer’s concerns, skillfully resolve problems, handle complaints, and when appropriate seek the support of a higher level of managementAdditional and desirable assetsExperience with any of the following; tourism sector; academic institutions; museums Application submission information: This is a casual, on-call position for coverage of our peak season, 7 day per week operations for an approximate six month term with the possibility of extension. We cannot guarantee a set number of hours per week; however, the positon is expected to work approximately 15-25 hours per week. The hourly wage is $15.51 an hour plus an additional 4% vacation pay.
