The incumbent also exercises judgment and problem solving in coordinating the triage of information and reference requests, referring those requiring specialized skills, sources, and interpretation to appropriate professionals. The incumbent also helps coordinate and directly provides superior front-line client service to staff, faculty, students, and visitors on a daily basis in order to ensure that clients can access the library building, collections, and services during posted operational hours and that virtual requests are responded to or referred expediently.This position also acts as a liaison with other units that provide public service to ensure that the library is providing accurate information and to discover areas of overlap, synergy, and collaboration. The incumbent will also act as the primary contact for program coordinators scheduling library instruction/orientation and will help deliver library orientation/information sessions as needed. The coordinator also compiles and creates reports on the use of library reference and instruction and assists in the maintenance, training, and selection of question management software. Qualifications: To be well suited to the role you will possess the following qualifications and competencies:A Library Technician diploma and a minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in a post-secondary library environment, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experienceA minimum of 3 years’ experience providing high quality, courteous, and friendly information and reference service as a primary role responsibilityExperience doing presentations and providing instructional or informational programs in a library settingGood working knowledge of MS Office, various internet browsers and computer operating systemsStrong analytical and problem solving skills with ability to implement course of action or make recommendationsStrong attention to detail and a high level of accuracyStrong organizational skillsDemonstrated use of good judgment with ability to make decisions within scope of the positionStrong customer service and public relations skills that are outgoing, consultative, and friendlyWell-developed inter-personal and conflict resolution skillsAbility to work independently and as part of a teamProven ability to conduct effective reference interviews in synchronous and asynchronous environments in order to ascertain user needsProven ability to recognize and refer any reference questions requiring further expertise Application submission information: This is a regular full-time position working on campus 37.5 hours per week including some varying evening and weekend shifts. The position has been evaluated at Grade 3 with a recruitment range that starts at $42,864 per annum.
