This is a re-posting of a replacement recruitment for a regular full-time position.

Reporting to the Manager Analyst, Server, Networks & Telecom Administration, you will be a member of a small team of Network and Server administrators.  In this role you will design, install and support the underlying infrastructure that lets technology operate smoothly for our staff, faculty and students.  You will play an integral part of maintaining the data and voice networks, as well as data storage, virtualized server infrastructure, disaster recovery preparedness and network security.  

This position will be required to collaborate and communicate continuously with the IT Services team and the university community to ensure projects and initiatives are appropriately defined and successfully implemented or completed.

Additionally, you will be required to operate systems in a maintainable fashion, keeping excellent documentation, implementing redundancy and applying sound security principals.


To be well suited to the role you will possess the following qualifications and competencies:

  • Formal training/education in Network administration and five to ten years of relevant work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Formal training/education in Computer Systems security is an asset
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proven ability to work effectively independently as well as with a team
  • Strong customer service focus
  • An optimal combination of sound knowledge and demonstrated experience in the following technical areas:

o  VoIP /SIP/T.38 protocols
o  Local and Campus Area Networking 
o  Switch configuration (VLANs, ACLs, STP, etc)
o  Firewalls, IPTables and advanced Routing
o  802.11 Wireless networking
o  Fibre Optic cabling
o  Both Interior and Exterior Data cabling
o  Linux and common Open Source software
o  Microsoft Operating Systems and Enterprise tools
o  Scripting abilities (Powershell, BASH, Perl, etc)
o  SAN, Storage redundancy and iSCSI
o  Apache and PHP environments
o  VMWare ESX and vCloud
o  Security scanning and remediation
o  Administering cloud services including Office 365 and Azure
o  Administering Java servers (Tomcat, Jetty, etc)

This is a regular full-time position working 37.5 hours per week.  The role is positioned within Grade 4 and the salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.  The University is pleased to offer a comprehensive benefits package.
