Job description: 

Under general direction performs a wide variety of maintenance duties such as daily operation and repairs, maintenance and preventative maintenance of all building equipment and systems including but not restricted to steam boilers, hot water boilers, a/c units, potable water systems, compressed air, air handling systems, generators and building automation systems.   The successful candidate must be able to manage building equipment and systems to the highest standard in order to maximize occupant comfort and ensure energy savings are optimized. 

The incumbent is responsible for quality work in a timely manner and ensuring that all duties are carried out in a safe and efficient manner and in accordance with all statutory codes and regulations and any operational systems established by the department from time to time.  Must conduct themselves in a professional, respectful manner at all times and is responsible to ensure they have a positive solution based attitude in the delivery of their work.

  • Minimal 4th Class Power Engineer Certificate combined with 3 years DDC experience
  • Grade 12 plus ten (5) years recent experience performing duties related to the position,  including one (1) year in a similar role utilizing shop and hand tools, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Extensive institutional HVAC experience or equivalent
  • Possession of a valid Class 5 driver’s license in the province of BC
  • Basic safety and equipment maintenance knowledge as well as comfort presenting technical information
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally, in writing and by email
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Ability to work with basic computer functions

Preferred Qualification in one or more of the following

  • Heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) BC trade qualification
  • Delta Controls and Alerton controls
  • DDC ability to make minor programing changes
  • Experience conducting service work within an institutional environment
  • Knowledge of WHMIS and H&S Policy and procedures

This position is regular full-time working 37.5 hours per week.  The successful candidate must have the ability to work a variety of shifts including weekends.  This is a CUPE Local 3886 Bargaining Unit position and the hourly rate is $27.39 and the university is pleased to offer a comprehensive benefits package
