Job description: 

Under general direction this position assists in the design and construction of new electrical installations; working with the design, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of plant electrical systems from the primary transformers to the final devices. This position will provide leadership and direction to all aspects of this trade. This position will be expected to have strong input into RRU’s direction for meeting the government guidelines for energy efficiency.  This will be a technical position required to problem solve and trouble shoot using various programs and computer based systems.

As this is a service based delivery department it will require someone with a positive solution based attitude to ensure campus support is provided to the highest standard.  At times this position will participate in project work, maintenance, and competing priorities that may require meeting tight timelines and working under pressure.  Quality and safety are paramount and in order to be successful the right individual would not only find these to be second nature but also of driving interest to achieve. This is a cooperative solution based team environment that may require you to work outside of normal operating hours and at times assist with other areas. 

Qualifications: 
  • Journeymen Electrician licensed with the government of BC.
  • In depth knowledge of the BC Electrical code.
  • Grade 12 plus ten (10) years recent experience performing duties related to the position, including one (1) year in a similar role utilizing shop and hand tools, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Knowledge of WHMIS and Occupational Health and Safety policy and procedures.
  • Possession of a valid Class 5 driver’s license in the province of BC.
  • Knowledge of basic safety, equipment maintenance and presenting technical information.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally, in writing and by email.
  • Ability to operate equipment/tools related to duties and work performed.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Ensures a professional approach to working relationships and conflict resolution.
  • General knowledge of procedures involved in work performed.
  • Ability to think analytically and problem solve in an efficient manner.
  • Willing to participate in and create a culture of safety.

This position is regular full-time working 37.5 hours per week.  The successful candidate must have the ability to work a variety of shifts including weekends.  This is a CUPE Local 3886 Bargaining Unit position and the hourly rate is $27.00 and the university is pleased to offer a comprehensive benefits package
