Manager, Learning Technologies
Centre for Teaching and Educational Technologies (CTET)

The Manager, Learning Technologies is responsible for optimizing the faculty and student experience of online and blended learning, through stewardship of both a learning technologies architecture and various support services, all aligned to  the Royal Roads University Learning and Teaching Model.

Reporting to the Director of the Centre for Teaching and Educational Technologies, this role has leadership responsibility for planning, vendor selection, and user support of (1) the learning management system (Moodle), (2) media repository (Mediacore), (3) various web-conferencing tools, and (4) other web-based tools and learning technologies. The Manager is responsible for technical direction related to the integration of web and multimedia resources into courses. The Manager ensures innovations in learning technologies are actively being researched and piloted in CTET, and oversees the evolution and operations of STUDIO, a centre for supporting faculty in their successful adoption of educational technologies.

The Manager acts as the primary liaison between CTET and IT Services for all learning technology software applications hosted at RRU, and is the business owner for applications hosted elsewhere (e.g. cloud and SaaS environments such as Blackboard Collaborate and Mediacore).  The Manager works closely with other managers in CTET to achieve cohesive processes and services for the RRU community, and is responsible for leadership on assigned CTET projects.

The Manager is responsible for the development of personal performance and development targets for a team of learning technologists and STUDIO staff.

This is a regular full-time position working 37.5 hours per week on campus and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.  Royal Roads University is also pleased to offer a comprehensive benefits package.


To be well suited to this opportunity you will possess the following qualifications and competencies:

  • A graduate degree and a minimum of 5 years relevant work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience in relevant fields (e.g. LMS project and client management, courseware development, educational technologies).
  • Experience leading and developing a team of 5 - 8 professional and technical staff, including recruitment, selection and performance management.
  • Current knowledge of learning technology trends and issues and demonstrated experience managing technology planning, architecture and organizational change.
  • Strong project management and team development skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, with experience building effective internal and external working relationships.
  • Strong written, visual and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas through concise language and diagrams.
