The key mandate of alumni relations is to offer value to our alumni by connecting them to activities and services of the university, supporting an active network of peers, and building the profile of institutional and alumni engagement both in Canada and around the world.  An integral member of the alumni relations team, the Manager, Alumni Relations will help to translate the student and prospect experience to the different life stages of the alumni experience anywhere Royal Roads alumni are found and will bring our alumni relations promise to life ‘To take the power of our place, every place’

Reporting to the Associate Vice-President, Marketing and Alumni Relations, you will plan and develop strategies to expand and strengthen university-wide opportunities for domestic and international alumni engagement.   The alumni base includes both alumni of Royal Roads University and alumni of Royal Roads Military College (ex-cadets). In this dynamic role you will build strong relationships with campus partners (schools, staff, students, alumni, etc.) to explore, encourage, and promote opportunities to expand alumni engagement; support the development of a multi-year alumni relations strategy and executes communications strategies, program options, and performance tracking systems to enhance alumni engagement.  

Furthermore, you will identify and leverage opportunities to involve and recognize alumni volunteers.  You will guide alumni volunteers and partners with planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating strategies to raise the profile of alumni and alumni programs, locally, nationally and internationally.

In this role you will contribute to the creation of a multi-year alumni relations engagement plan which is based on the findings from the Alumni Survey as well as contributing to the development and maintenance of the online connections hub (Graduway) reflective of five focus areas: 

  • Recruitment 
  • Fundraising 
  • Internships 
  • Networking 
  • Alumni Support Services 

To be well suited to the role you will possess the following qualifications and competencies:

  • University degree and five to seven years of related experience including experience in planning, program management, community engagement events/activities management, volunteer management, marketing and communications, and public relations or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Good knowledge of University policies and procedures, and Freedom of Information/Protection of Privacy Act regulations.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and leadership skills including the ability to guide and mentor others, and work collaboratively and effectively with corporate partners, senior level volunteers, university administrators, faculty, staff, students and alumni.
  • Excellent public speaking skills with the ability to influence key stakeholders through effective presentations.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical reasoning, problem solving, and organizational skills, with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Excellent research skills and the ability to analyze data.
  • Ability to negotiate and persuade others of the value of collaborating and partnering, with the creativity, drive, and ability to find win-win solutions.
  • Ability to develop, implement, and evaluate strategies to support alumni engagement programs, projects, and initiatives.
  • Ability to independently set goals, establish priorities, meet deadlines and budgets, and accomplish results with minimal direction.
  • Ability to exercise mature judgment, tact, and diplomacy, and resolve conflicts.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word applications, internet, electronic mail, presentation, social media applications, and computer-based records management systems.

This is a regular full-time position working 37.5 hours per week. The role is positioned within Grade 5 with a recruitment salary range starting at $66,586 per annum. Royal Roads University is also pleased to offer a comprehensive benefits package.
