Job description: 

Royal Roads University is a modern, growing institution, situated on a national historic site.  Within the context of the university’s business plan, the university prioritizes capital infrastructure initiatives in support of its growth and diversification agenda, and in relation to its role as steward of the property.

Reporting to the Senior Portfolio Director, the Project Coordinator fills an important role in the VP&CFO portfolio by coordinating administrative aspects of RRU’s capital infrastructure initiatives. This position has both a support and a leadership role in relation to the development and implementation of sound processes and practices to ensure effective monitoring and administration of project activities.  The Project Coordinator will be responsible for tracking project estimates, budgets and commitments through the development, approval, execution and completion phases of a project. 

Each project will involve a multi-faceted team of experts and interested parties and building effective relationships and communications with all parties is an important component to the success of this role.

Qualifications: 
  • A relevant undergraduate degree and five years’ experience as a project coordinator or relevant member of teams accountable for management and delivery of major infrastructure initiatives, and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Knowledge of project management methodology(ies), and associated documentation requirements; a CAPM credential would be considered an asset
  • Proven experience with financial administration and coordination within a project management context
  • Excellent administration skills, with ability to create and implement effective processes, trouble-shoot emerging issues, and where appropriate cross-train with others
  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills and strong track record of effective coordination and collaboration with other business units/departments and stakeholders 
  • Ability to inspire support amongst matrixed team members in service to the overall project and portfolio goals
  • Advanced writing skills with a strong appreciation for the value of effective communications and associated best practices
  • Well-developed work ethic and attention to detail
  • Demonstrates an ability to identify and take initiative when appropriate, and when to escalate questions or emerging issues
  • Ability to understand assessments of project viability, and use sound judgement when dealing with budget and contract management matters
  • Demonstrates research and analytical abilities
  • Uses tact and discretion in the work place, and understands its importance in relation to the broad responsibilities of the VP&CFO portfolio
  • Brings an advanced proficiency in the use of the MS Office suite of applications, and a strong sense of curiosity and enthusiasm in terms of using new technological tools to enhance efficiency
  • Demonstrates a positive, professional and engaging approach to work, and the work place

Additional assets will include:

  • Sound knowledge of RRU’s mission, vision and current program offerings
  • The commitment to and interest in managing a broad array of duties spanning from repetitive, routine tasks to complex matters
  • A Microsoft Excel “super user” and/or experience with MS Project

This is a temporary full-time position working 37.5 hours per week until approximately December 21, 2018, with the possibility of extension dependent on operational need. The position has been evaluated at Grade 3 with a recruitment range that starts at $45,516 per annum. The university is pleased to offer a percentage of salary in lieu of vacation.
