The Vice President & Chief Financial Officer (VP&CFO) is accountable for the effective oversight of a diverse and demanding portfolio as a member of the university’s executive team.  

Reporting through the Senior Portfolio Director, the lead in managing and coordinating the priorities of the VP&CFO portfolio, you will provide a full range of administrative support services, and work in tandem with the Senior Portfolio Director to ensure the needs of the VP’s team are met. 

This includes providing a well-organized, efficient and professional front-line image when interacting with internal and external clients, direct reports, project teams and a variety of other stakeholders.  You will also help to facilitate of communication and coordination of a multitude of activities with the Senior Portfolio Director, including research and analysis, the development of briefing documents, and presentation materials to support business management processes and decision-making. 

Through your sound interpersonal abilities you will contribute to and enhance the strong stakeholder relationships currently established, both internal and external, with the VP &CFO team.  At the same time, you will build on the strategic understanding of the function of the VP&CFO’s team, and the important role it plays within the larger RRU context.  

  • Has completed relevant post-secondary education and at least five years of related experience providing senior administrative/coordination support within a highly complex executive or senior management office environment, or equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Possesses exceptional organizational abilities, including priority setting, time management, event planning, and project management skills
  • Proven experience contributing to the delivery of complex multi-phase projects while managing unique and competing interests as an active and knowledgeable member to a project management team
  • Has the ability to think strategically, understanding priorities in relation to the university’s strategic goals and initiatives
  • Demonstrates an ability to work both independently and on a team, with a proactive customer-service approach when liaising with clients (internal and external)
  • Anticipates operational needs or potential issues, including the appropriate follow up to ensure goals and objectives are met
  • As an extension to the university’s executive support team, performs all administrative support duties proficiently, in a professional and efficient fashion, with careful attention to detail
  • Demonstrates well-developed, effective communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills
  • Liaises with clients and stakeholders in a positive and productive fashion, managing issues of a sensitive nature and resolving conflicts in a professional manner
  • Possesses strong administrative skills, with a track record for the effective management of office administrative systems and procedures, records management and correspondence tracking
  • Presents a sense of business acumen when dealing with budget and contract management matters
  • Demonstrates research and analytical abilities, building on prior experience gathering relevant information from a variety of sources
  • Uses tact and discretion in the work place, and understands its importance in relation to the responsibilities of the VP&CFO portfolio
  • Advanced proficiency in the use of the MS Office suite of applications, and a strong sense of curiosity and enthusiasm in terms of using new technological tools to enhance efficiency
  • The commitment to and interest in managing a broad array of duties spanning from repetitive, routine tasks to complex matters
  • Demonstrates a positive, professional and engaging approach to work, and the work place

Additional assets will include:

  • Sound knowledge of RRU’s mission, vision and current program offerings
  • Post-secondary education in a financial program (CGA, CMA, college certificate) or equivalent
  • A Microsoft Excel “super user”

This is a regular full-time position working 37.5 hours per week. The position has been evaluated at Grade 3 and the recruitment range starts at $42,864 per annum. Royal Roads University is also pleased to offer a comprehensive benefits package.
