Job description: 

As a member of the Learning Systems Development team, you’ll work with like-minded, technical professionals in a collaborative and innovative environment.

The team is actively involved in development and management of web applications including modules for our learning platform (Moodle), upcoming educational technologies and other software packages as they are required (primarily PHP/MySQL). 

You must be able to provide evidence of your firm understanding of conceptual programming practices and be enthusiastic in learning more about emerging technologies as they arise. 

You will have demonstrated expertise with PHP/MySQL, some experience with Linux and Apache and a keen interest in the Open Source community. Familiarity with iterative application development including AGILE development methodologies and ITIL practices, development experience in a team environment and using version control, such as Git, would be an asset.

Qualifications: 

To be well suited to the role you will possess the following qualifications and competencies:

  • Must have a degree or diploma in Computer Science and a minimum of three (3) years’ related software development work experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience working within LAMP hosting environments
  • Demonstrated experience with PHP/MySQL
  • Proven experience in building functional specifications and coding to prepared specifications
  • An in-depth understanding of information systems and familiarity with the software development life cycle (SDLC) and Agile development practices
  • Linux administration skills is an asset
  • Experience in the module and plugin development for open-source software is an asset
  • Advanced problem solving skills
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Ability to communicate complex and technical ideas to others in plain language
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills and a strong customer service orientation
  • Proven ability to work well independently as well as part of a team

This is a regular full-time position working 37.5 hours per week. The position has been evaluated at Grade 3 and the recruitment range is $42,864 to $53,581 per annum.  The university is pleased to offer a comprehensive benefits package.
