This is a re-posting of recruitment due to the full-time regularization of a temporary part-time position.

Writing Centre Associate

Reporting to the University Librarian or designate, the Writing Centre Associate supports the Writing Centre by facilitating writing workshops, providing individual support to students both in person and within the distributed learning environment and assisting to triage the support needs of students for whom English is not their first language.

This position will support and maintain online learning tools with a focus on assisting in the development of instructional materials in formats alternative to print, and initiating, establishing, and maintaining positive working relationships with RRU program faculty and staff by providing customized writing instruction and student scholarship.  Additionally, the Associate will also offer support and advice, and builds resources for students seeking to publish their work via traditional and non-traditional scholarly channels.

This is a regular full-time position working 37.5 hours per week.  The work schedule is Tuesday through Saturday.  The position has been evaluated at Grade 3 and the recruitment range starts at 42,864 per annum.  The University is pleased to offer a comprehensive benefits package.


To be well suited to the role you will possess the following qualifications and competencies:

  • Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred) in an appropriate field of study and formal teaching qualifications with a minimum of 2 years related experience working with students in a post-secondary environment
  • A minimum of 1 year experience working with students for whom English is not their first language
  • Thorough understanding of the basic components of writing (parts of speech, grammar, punctuation, capitalization), the writing process, and writing style guides
  • Experience in publishing preferred, particularly within an academic environment
  • Strong computer skills (MS Office suite, web editors, PKP software, Photoshop)
  • Demonstrated excellence in facilitating synchronous and asynchronous learning experiences for adults
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects and meet deadlines
  • Excellent communication and organization skills
